The Periodicals Department receives around 500 current print journals, magazines, and newspapers which are arranged on open shelves. Back issues of most journals and magazines are available in the basement periodicals area. Newspapers and large format magazines and journals can be found in the browsing area near the coffee bar. The library does have some titles on microfilm and microfiche and others are bound and located in the basement. You may search for a title or browse our titles using the search options at the right. In addition to print subscriptions, the library also has access to approximately 60,000 journals and magazine titles in online format. The Periodicals Librarian can assist patrons with searching databases for needed articles, search the stacks for print issues, or with using the microfilm equipment in the periodicals area.
Many of the library’s periodicals are available online and articles may be downloaded, printed, or emailed. To find a specific title or browse alphabetically or by broad subject, please see the search options at the right. To search for a specific subject, please see the Summon search box below or access an individual database directly at http://libguides.pittstate.edu/atoz . Articles that you cannot access through PSU Library Services in print or online form you may request on interlibrary loan.
Faculty may check out periodicals for 3 weeks. All other use is restricted to Library use only.
Microfilm and microfiche readers and reader/printers are located on the 1st Floor. There is no cost to read microfilm or microfiche, but you must use a Gorilla Card or Banana Bucks Card on to pay for printouts on these machines. The cost is five cents per page. Banana Bucks Cards may be purchased at the Card Value Center machine located near the Circulation desk.
The Library also has a digitizing microfilm scanner that allows you to transfer images from microfilm or microfiche onto a flash drive. You may also email a scan as a file attachment. Please ask for assistance in Periodicals or Reference when using this machine.
Patrons may use photocopy machines to make copies of journal articles and other items on the 1st Floor near the Circulation Desk, the basement, and on the first and third floors. The cost is five cents per page, using a Gorilla Card or Banana Bucks Card. The Card Value Center can be used to add money to either card.
Patrons may utilize the scanner located on the 1st Floor near the copy machine to scan journal articles and other items. After scanning, documents may be emailed, uploaded to a flash drive, or uploaded to a smart phone via QR code. There is no cost to scan, but if you need to print out the scan, the cost is the same as any other printout.
