The Interlibrary Loan service desk is located in the main corridor on the first floor of the Library.
Interlibrary Loan is used as a way of expanding Library resources to a worldwide level. If you are a PSU patron and you need something that is not owned by our library, you may be able to obtain it from another library using this service. Books, dissertations, theses, and photocopies of journal articles are examples of material available on Interlibrary Loan.
The Interlibrary Loan department uses an online system called ILLiad to provide interlibrary loan and document delivery services to PSU patrons. ILLiad imports citations from WorldCat, and article citations from a number of our 120+ online databases.
Axe Library observes the provisions and restrictions of the Kansas Interlibrary Loan Best Practices guidelines and the National Interlibrary Loan Code (revised 2008) as approved by the American Library Association.
The Axe Library is a member of the Southeast Kansas Library System, one of seven Regional Library Systems in Kansas. We extend our collection to libraries outside of the Pittsburg area; within Kansas, the United States, and to libraries worldwide.
Axe Library is able to borrow materials due to the goodwill of other lending libraries, and for the most part, this service is free of charge. To ensure we remain in good standing with these lenders we are subject to the lending restrictions they set for us. You may not have the same privileges with these materials that you have with ours concerning checkout times, renewals, and overdue charges. Interlibrary Loans have overdue charges that are higher than our normal circulation charges.
Overdue Period | Overdue Charges |
---|---|
1-2 days late | $0.50 / day on each overdue item |
From day 3 | $1.00 / day on each overdue item |
Item lost | Replacement cost as assigned by the owning library; in addition to overdue charges incurred. |
The Axe Library Document Delivery Service provides PDF scans of journal articles owned by the Library in print or microfilm, uploading them directly into your ILLiad account. This does not, however, include articles that are available in full text through one of our online databases, or scans of book chapters - you already have direct access to those items.
Here's how it works: After locating a citation of interest, check for a “Link to Full Text” or “PDF” link. If full text is not available, click on the “Request this from Interlibrary Loan” link. You should be taken to the ILLiad login screen, and then to an Article Request form with the citation already filled in. A link to a blank Article request form is also located in the ILLiad sidebar in your account.
This is a free service to Axe Library patrons. PSU faculty, staff, and students use their GUS ID and password to set up an ILLIAD account. Community library users may purchase a Banana Bucks card, which provides an ID and password identification, as well as a way to add currency for printing.
Please see Interlibrary Loan or the Reference desk if you have any issues with setting up your ILLiad account, or if you have any other questions about Document Delivery or ILL.
