Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970. It was first celebrated on April 22, 1970 as a movement to raise awarements of the role humans play in affecting and protecting the natural world. Millions of Americans joined in protests and calls of actions leading to the creation of the United States Enviromental Proctection Agency and a number of environmental protection acts.
